Meet
the Dogs: Intro
There
is much that could be said when describing this amazing
group of dogs who are a pleasure to work with. As a
group they possess awesome potential for a wide range
of activities, but it is each dog as an individual that
ultimately makes up Adventure k9. They live and function
as a true family pack. They are a joy to watch as they
follow an insticntive set of guidelines governing pack
rank and behaviour. Listed below are each of the dogs
and a little bit about their individual selves, it is
our pleasure to share this fascinating and most unique
group of dogs with you.

Jasper
(retired from active duty)
Female
Age: 13
Rank: Team Matriarch
Favorite Activity: Herding |
|
Jasper is an 13 year old
female and the matriarch leader of the group. She is
both the mother and grandmother of the other members
of the pack, and therefore holds and enjoys the most
respected and highest rank. She is remarkably intelligent,
fiercely loyal, and simply loves to work! She has been
a loyal companion for thirteen years, and over that
time-span has been on more adventures than could be
counted! She is truly made of "all the right stuff",
and has passed all of those wonderful traits into the
rest of the dogs that make up Adventure k9.

Cody
Male
Age: 9
Rank: 2nd in Command
Favorite Activity: Ball Hockey |
|
Cody, our big, strong,
lead male is second in rank only to his mother. At seven
years of age he is in peak physical condition, with
a solid frame tipping the scales at 60 lbs. He is very
intelligent and generally the "most willing"
of the pack, and is therefore most often taught new
commands first, and is then used to help teach the others.
He has a very kind nature, and is as reliable as they
come. Overall, the best, most conditioned swimmer in
the group, a vital aspect of goose control work. When
not at work or out on an adventure, Cody LOVES ball
hockey, especially playing goalie, where he sacrifices
body and mouth to stop any shot!

Brooks
Female
Age: 9
Rank: 3rd in Line
Favorite Activity: Squirrel Hunt'n |
|
Full sister to Cody, the
two of them have grown up together and are a very close-knit
pair. She holds a special position within the pack as
Jasper's closest confidant. Considered small as border
collie's go, at 33 pounds she is all business and the
hardest, most dedicated worker in the group. Despite
her small size, visible scars and several missing teeth
are proof positive of her gritty nature. When solo missions
in the workfield are necessary, it is often Brooks that
gets the call and is rewarded with a chance to perform
and shine! Chasing after pesky ol'squirrels is her passion,
although I'm not sure just what she'd ever do if she
actually caught one!

Jack
Male
Age: 7
Rank: #4
Favorite Activity: Chow Time |
|
They say
there is a clown and a trouble-maker in every group.
In this pack, Jack takes both of those honours! It is
his "bottomless belly" that often leads him
towards trouble. Pillaging the feed barrel is one of
his regular "misdemeanors". If Jack could
talk, I believe he would excuse it as a "crime
of passion"! But the group just would not be the
same without him, and he repeatedly surfaces as a favourite
amongst children at school, church, and community events.
Reflective of their natural inclination towards mischief!

Chase
Female
Age: 7
Rank: 5th in Line
Favorite Activity: Kayak'n |
|
Full sister
to Jack and Dodge, and the third female of the group,
five year old Chase is definitely a "one-in-a-million"
dog! She is unique amongst the rest in both looks and
personality. A very sweet disposition and a love for
people directs a great deal of attention her way. She
is a very obedient dog, always working hard to please
and thrives on the praise that results.
She loves to ride the kayak and explore wild places
accessible only by boat.

Dodge
Male
Age:7
Rank: Bottom of the Order
Favorite Activity: Anything Tennis Ball |
|
Rounding out the order is Dodge, a very
playful, happy-go-lucky dog with an unfortunate addiction
to the tennis ball! (An addiction which also plagues
all members of this team, and countless other border
collies) He has exceptional athletic abilities, and
is truly happiest engaged in the most serious of activities,
which is anything tennis ball. He is also a regular
contender for the "fastest of the pack", a
highly coveted title amongst this team! Hands down,
he holds the record for the longest water dive, regularly
practicing this skill towards very nervous Canada geese.

In
Memory:
Ty
February, 2003 |
|
At the young age of two
our friend Ty was sadly laid to rest and the team reduced
by one. Ty was born with a level 5 heart murmur that
eventually took his life in February 2003. He is missed.
